Job Summary:
A Respiratory Therapist plays a crucial role in providing care and treatment to patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans to improve lung function and overall quality of life for patients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducting patient assessments to determine respiratory health status
- Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans
- Performing diagnostic tests and procedures to evaluate lung function
- Administering medications and therapeutic treatments
- Monitoring patient progress and making adjustments to treatment plans as needed
- Educating patients and their families on treatment strategies and self-care techniques
- Collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for patients
- Documenting patient information and progress in medical records
- Maintaining equipment and ensuring compliance with safety standards
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist
- Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of respiratory care practices and procedures
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions
- Experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred
