Job Title: Perfusionist
Job Summary:
A Perfusionist is a medical professional who operates the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery to support a patient's circulation and oxygenation. They are responsible for monitoring, adjusting, and controlling the patient's blood flow and oxygen levels throughout the procedure.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Set up and operate heart-lung bypass machines during surgery
2. Monitor and control vital signs, blood flow, and oxygen levels during procedures
3. Administer medications and blood products as necessary
4. Collaborate with surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
5. Maintain accurate records and documentation of perfusion activities
6. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated
7. Participate in continuing education and training to stay current on best practices in perfusion
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Perfusion Technology or related field
- Certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP)
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in high-stress environments
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
