Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Job Summary:
As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will work under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists to help individuals with physical, mental, developmental, or emotional disabilities achieve improved independence and quality of life through therapeutic interventions. You will assist in implementing treatment plans, conducting assessments, and providing hands-on therapy to clients in various settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and community-based organizations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist occupational therapists in evaluating clients' functional abilities and developing treatment plans.
2. Help clients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, and bathing.
3. Administer therapeutic exercises and activities to improve clients' strength, coordination, and range of motion.
4. Monitor clients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
5. Educate clients and their families on proper techniques and strategies for improving independence and functional performance.
6. Document clients' progress and communicate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
7. Adhere to ethical and professional standards set forth by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and state regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program
2. Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
3. State licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
5. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
6. Compassion and empathy for individuals with disabilities
7. Physical stamina and dexterity to assist clients with mobility and self-care tasks
8. Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices
