Job title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Job Summary: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist to provide rehabilitation services to patients struggling with physical, mental, developmental, or emotional disabilities. The COTA helps patients improve their ability to perform daily activities and regain independence.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist occupational therapists in assessing patients' needs and developing treatment plans.
2. Implement therapy programs to improve patients' motor skills, coordination, and strength.
3. Monitor and evaluate patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
4. Teach patients and their families how to use adaptive equipment and perform daily tasks.
5. Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress and treatment outcomes.
6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
7. Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients during their therapy sessions.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
2. Certification as a COTA by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
3. State license or registration as a COTA.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Compassion and patience when working with patients.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility and daily activities.
