Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Job Summary:
As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to help patients develop, recover, and improve their daily living and work skills. You will be responsible for carrying out treatment plans, documenting patient progress, and communicating with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for your patients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work with patients to assess their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities
- Assist in developing and implementing treatment plans that focus on improving coordination, balance, strength, and other relevant skills
- Instruct and guide patients in therapeutic exercises and activities
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
- Teach patients how to use adaptive equipment and assistive technology that can improve their independence
- Document patient progress and record any relevant information in their medical charts
- Communicate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure the best outcomes for patients
- Maintain equipment and supplies and ensure a safe and clean treatment environment
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current certification as a COTA by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
- State license or certification required in some jurisdictions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with patients and their families
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and basic computer skills
