Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
Job Summary:
As a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), you will work alongside licensed physical therapists to provide crucial support in helping patients regain physical function, manage pain, and improve their overall quality of life. Your role will involve implementing treatment plans, providing therapeutic exercises, monitoring progress, and offering compassionate care to individuals across various age groups and clinical settings.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist in assessing patients' physical conditions and identifying the need for therapy.
2. Collaborate with physical therapists to develop personalized treatment plans.
3. Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and assist them with mobility, stretching, and strengthening exercises.
4. Administer modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
5. Monitor patients' progress and document observations during therapy sessions.
6. Educate patients and their families on exercises, activities, and home care techniques to optimize outcomes.
7. Help patients utilize assistive devices such as crutches, canes, or walkers.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
9. Assist in providing safe transfers and transportation of patients as needed.
10. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
11. Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to patient care discussions.
12. Adhere to infection control and safety protocols in all therapy activities.
13. Continuously update knowledge by attending relevant workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
14. Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor when interacting with patients and their families.
15. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing equipment inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized therapy space.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistance from an accredited program.
2. Current state licensure or eligibility to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
3. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and body mechanics.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and colleagues.
5. Physical stamina and the ability to lift, transfer, and assist patients with mobility.
6. Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide emotional support to patients undergoing physical therapy.
7. Attention to detail and the ability to accurately document patient progress.
8. Basic computer skills to navigate electronic medical records and software applications.
9. Commitment to upholding ethical and professional standards in patient care.
10. Ability to work effectively in a team-based healthcare environment.
11. Flexibility to adapt to changing patient needs and clinical settings.
12. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize multiple tasks.
13. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.
14. Current CPR certification.
15. Passion for helping others and improving patients' quality of life.
