Job Summary:
A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for providing care and treatment for patients with respiratory disorders. They work under the direction of physicians to evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing difficulties. RRTs may be employed in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and home healthcare settings.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Evaluate patients with breathing difficulties and develop treatment plans
2. Administer medications and therapies to improve respiratory function
3. Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
4. Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions and treatments
5. Assist with emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
6. Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care
7. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
8. Stay current on advances in respiratory therapy techniques and equipment
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy
2. Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
3. State licensure as required
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
6. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
7. Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
8. Physical stamina to assist patients with varying levels of mobility
