The OTA/COTA in a Long-Term Care setting assists in delivering occupational therapy treatments to residents with physical, cognitive, and functional limitations. Working under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT), this role focuses on improving residents’ independence, safety, and overall quality of life.
Assist OT with implementing individualized therapy treatment plans
Provide therapeutic exercises, activities, and ADL training to residents
Document daily treatment notes and progress according to facility standards
Monitor patient performance and report changes to the supervising OT
Educate residents and caregivers on safety, equipment use, and functional skills
Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe treatment environment
Support residents in mobility training, strengthening, fine motor coordination, and cognitive activities
Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions
Comply with state and federal regulations for LTC facilities
Promote resident independence and functional improvement
Active state license as OTA/COTA
Associate degree from an accredited OTA program
LTC or SNF experience preferred (not mandatory)
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
